Implemented Active-Passive Infrastructure with FortiGate Firewall

We implemented a FortiGate firewall in an active-passive setup across different Availability Zones on GCP, providing enhanced security as Jindal Power Limited migrated workloads to the cloud. This solution ensures high availability, reduces operational costs, and strengthens network protection with centralized security and data replication.

Previously, Jindal Power Limited (JPL) used Palo Alto firewalls which were nearing expiration. As workloads were migrating to the cloud, JPL observed the scalability, advanced security features, and resilience of cloud environments. They preferred FortiGate firewalls for enhanced network protection instead of continuing with Palo Alto.

We created an active-passive environment across different Availability Zones and supported the client in implementing centralized GCP security for multiple applications and databases. Two FortiGate firewalls were deployed, one in each environment, providing multiple layers of protection. The passive environment mirrors all network configurations to ensure redundancy.

The FortiGate firewall added an extra layer of security, and the Active-Passive GCP deployment reduced ongoing operational costs while ensuring full security and high availability in case of failover.
